Construction and operational features.  Selection criteria

From the constructive point of view, each reactive power capacitor unit is a set of capacitor cells (controlled and non-controlled type) and input cells. Inside the cells, which are accessed from the front end of the structure, there is a control circuit for the main and auxiliary circuits.  The number of cells depends on the power of the units and the number of control steps.

Unlike the non-controlled capacitor units, the controlled capacitors have not only fuses and three-phase capacitors, but also vacuum contactors, as well as shunt reactors. Each fuse is equipped with a trigger indicator which is monitored through the view port.  In addition, the capacitors are completed with the discharge resistors.

The door of the input cell is equipped with a power controller, lighting, ammeters.

Purpose. Scope

The reactive power capacitor units are used to increase the reactive power factor of electrical systems of industrial facilities with a voltage of 6 – 10 kV.  Due to the technical and operational parameters of the units, the power factor at minimum and maximum network loads is maintained automatically and the possibility of overcompensation is absolutely excluded.

The units establish a clear balance of reactive power independently, and do not require the intervention of the maintenance personnel. The use of capacitor units reduces the current load on all distribution equipment, normalizes the voltage in load centers of the power system.  These devices are reasonable to be purchased if the company intends to optimize the operation of its power system.  Such products are necessary for the majority of industrial facilities of engineering, oil, gas, and food complex, as well as at any enterprises dealing with large volumes of consumed electricity.

Advantages. Economic effect

The reactive power capacitor units provide autonomous retention of the programmed power factor (due to the timely disconnection or switching of the control stages), overload protection, alarms, protection against distortions of higher harmonics, indication of the current in capacitor banks.  Operation in manual mode implies the possibility manually to switch off and connect the control stages.
